Is Your God an Internet God?

I have met many interesting people online through the years. I have come to know a little bit about you as you share your goals, dreams, and yes, even your lives. I have come to consider you my friends.

However, the truth of the matter is that I don’t really know you. I have never personally met you. I cannot build a relationship based on a few comments and emails, but still I have learned to care about you as you draw me into your life through your writings. This is all good but I wonder . . .

I wonder if we treat God the same way. We read a little bit about Him here and there in His Word and think we have a relationship. We may attend worship on Sunday and seem satisfied that we have pleased God by our presence. But yet, do we really know Him on a personal level?

I remember hearing of a woman in my area that met a man online. She lived in Pennsylvania, he in California. She made the 3,000 mile trip to marry this man whom she had never met. They had an internet relationship, but she never really knew him personally. Today they are divorced.

Again, I wonder. Have you personally met the one and only true God? Superficial knowledge is not enough. I believe in George Washington although I’ve never met him. Belief in God is not enough. The book of James tells us that even the devil believes in God. Have you met Him personally or is He just an internet God?

There is a reason that He left the glories of Heaven and came to this wicked earth. He came that you might know Him personally. There is a reason He allowed Himself to be crucified at the hands of sinful men – that you might know Him personally. There is a reason He shed His sinless blood upon the cross – that you might know Him and have a personal relationship with Him. There is no forgiveness without the shedding of blood.

Christianity is not a matter of simply believing God exists. Christianity is meant to be a lifestyle in which Jesus Christ continues to live His life through you. It is not a matter of just adding Jesus to your life. It is a matter of Christ being your life.

If there are some things in your life that you know do not please God, why not get rid of them right now? If you have never met Christ on a personal level, why not meet Him right now? He’s waiting for you. Realize that there is nothing you can do to earn God’s favor. The full payment for your sin was paid at Calvary. The ball is in your court. You can accept God’s free gift or reject it, thus spending eternity in hell separated from God forever. Please don’t just know of Him, but know HIM. God is not an internet God.

I'm not getting any younger and I've enjoyed writing almost my entire life - from lyrics and poetry to short stories and novels. Most, but not all of my writing, contain spiritual themes. I am a born-again Christian, and I try to honor my Lord through the written page. He has truly changed my life and I'm forever grateful. In addition to writing, I also pastor Lifegate Baptist Church in Bellefonte, PA, and have a burning desire to see God revive our land. The Great American Fast is my passion so please stop by and visit me at www.thegreatamericanfast.org. I've lived in the same small town all but twelve of my 60 years. Central PA is a wonderful place to live - mountains, streams, and peace abound. I enjoy spending time with my family and the family pets - four cats and a dog.
